Event Overview
Mastering the Bedside Signs
Neurological Examination 1.0 is an intensive, interactive, hands-on clinical skills workshop conducted by the DMC Internal Medicine Interest Group (DMC IMIG) under the auspices of the American College of Physicians (ACP) Bangladesh Chapter, proudly supported by the Bangladesh Society of Medicine (BSM), with Aristopharma as Scientific Partner.
Exclusively curated for 3rd to 5th Year MBBS students of Dhaka Medical College, this workshop is designed to bridge the gap between textbook neuroanatomy and confident bedside clinical practice.
"Learn the signs. Understand the localization. Examine with confidence."

Workshop Overview & Hands-On Curriculum
Participants will undergo focused, small-group practical training under direct bedside supervision. The curriculum systematically dissects the eight pillars of clinical neurology:
- 1.Systematic Neurological Examination: Establishing a standardized, fluid sequence from patient introduction to synthesis.
- 2.Cranial Nerve Examination: Step-by-step techniques from CN I to CN XII, with special emphasis on pupillary reflexes, fundoscopy orientation, facial nerve palsy (UMN vs LMN differentiation), and bulbar vs pseudobulbar palsies.
- 3.Motor & Sensory System Examination: Precise grading of muscle power (MRC scale 0–5), tone assessment (spasticity vs rigidity vs hypotonia), dermatomal sensory mapping, and vibration/proprioception elicitation.
- 4.Reflexes and Plantar Response: Perfecting the tendon hammer technique, deep tendon reflex reinforcement (Jendrassik maneuver), clonus testing, and unequivocal Babinski reflex elicitation.
- 5.Cerebellar Examination: Finger-nose test, dysdiadochokinesia, heel-to-shin test, pendular reflexes, and nystagmus interpretation.
- 6.Gait Assessment: Identifying classic neurological gaits: hemiplegic, festinating, waddling, sensory ataxic (stomping), and high-steppage gaits.
- 7.Clinical Localization of Neurological Lesions: Translating bedside physical findings into anatomical neuroaxis mapping (cortex, subcortex, brainstem, spinal cord, nerve root, peripheral nerve, NMJ, or muscle).
- 8.Case-Based Clinical Reasoning: Formulating sharp problem representations and defending differential diagnoses from real clinical vignettes.
